![]() There is a special place being built where all children can play—without regard for their abilities. This place is a special playground being built right here at North Park in Jackson, Tennessee and it is called Gabriel's Garden. Play is a fundamental joy of childhood. It is also a very important way children learn to navigate the world and interact with other people. An estimated six million children in the U.S. have some type of disability that makes it hard if not impossible for them to enjoy playing on a traditional playground. For children who use wheelchairs or other means of physical support, playgrounds can be disappointing places because usually the children must abandon their special equipment and crawl onto the playground equipment. The people planning Gabriel's Garden know these frustrations and are building an inclusive playground designed to give all children a wonderful play experience - one without limits, one for all children. Through vibrant colors, interesting surfaces, and innovative play equipment, children will be excited to play with their friends and family at Gabriel's Garden. Won’t you help plant a seed at Gabriel's Garden? This special project is being partially funded by the Fishman's Fund, the City of Jackson, West Tennessee Healthcare, and the Jackson Civitan Club. The generosity of others will ensure that this playground is built for children of all abilities for many generations. Because Jackson is a 'hub city,' Gabriel’s Garden will be a desired stop for school field trips and family outings.
