My son, Gabriel, has a rare genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome. Children with this disorder are often called 'angels' not only because of the syndrome but because of their bubbly personalities and overall happy disposition. Gabriel always has a ready smile and an easily provoked laugh that is infectious.

Gabe also has multiple handicaps but the most evident is his inability to walk. He has the desire to keep up with his older brother, Russ, and sister, Kati, but is unable to romp through the woods on our farm. He cannot climb trees or to chase butterflies. Instead, he sits in his wheelchair and laughs at their antics.

Kati and Russ would love to play with their brother. Russ found a small brochure once in a toy he had received, that pictured a special swing with a high back, armrests, and safety straps made especially for children like Gabe. At that moment, my whole family caught the 'bug' and got excited and decided to approach the City and others about finding out how to make a place to play for children - every angel of every ability.
